Inferno News: November 1, 2024

Here is our weekly update of events and information for Greystone Centennial Middle School.

Principal's Report

October has come to an end, and we had a great October here at Greystone! Both our Junior A Boys and Girls Volleyball teams made it to league finals, our Senior Girls upset the number 1 seed in playoffs before coming up just short in the semi-finals, and our Senior Boys play in the finals on Monday at Woodhaven at 6 PM! We hope to see many families there.

Yesterday, we had an amazing Halloween day, featuring many activities and Greystone's Spookapalooza dance! It was wonderful to see so many students dressed up and excited for the big day.

Next week is our last week before the fall instructional break. We will hold our Remembrance Day Ceremony next Thursday, November 7. We will also be conducting our SOS-Q, which helps guide our work in Social Emotional Learning. We analyze these results to identify key trends about how our students feel about their school experience so that we can target areas of concern. I have included the Information Letter as a separate attachment on the Friday email.

Share a Thought Survey

We want your feedback!

Use our Share a Thought Survey to let us know what is on your mind.  We work hard as a staff to consider your feedback when making decisions regarding many aspects of the school.

Rabbit Hill Ski/Snowboard Club

We will be running our ski/snowboard club again this year. The Rabbit Hill Ski/Snowboard Club (grades 5-9) meeting will be Thursday at Lunch Recess(12:05) for students to receive more information. Permission forms will be sent home at that time.

Choir Tour- Bottle Drive

Choir tour is doing a bottle drive starting on Monday, Nov. 4th. If you would like to support the choir program, bring your bottles next week to the front of the school at drop off or at 3:45.

Remembrance Day- Parent Volunteers

If you have served/are currently serving in the military, reserves, or RCMP and would like to march in our Remembrance Day ceremony, please reach out to Mrs. Putt (genna.putt@psd.ca) for further details. The assembly is happening on the morning of Thursday, Nov. 7th.

In Search of Volunteers

FOGS (Friends of Greystone Society) is looking for 6 adult volunteers to help out with pop up lunches. These lunches differ from the 'hot lunch' program, where items are sold directly in our pods rather than pre-ordered. The dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday, November 19
  • Tuesday, December 10
  • Tuesday, January 14

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact FOGS vice-president Chantelle at cschenk73@gmail.com or by phone at 780-983-4722

November Attendance Graphic

As mentioned previously, Greystone and Parkland School Division are working to help inform families and take universal strategies to help improve attendance. In November, I would like to point families to statistics regarding lates. Although we know there are occasions where students are late to school, chronic lates add up to a lot of instructional time

Grade 9 Quebec Exchange Opportunity - repeat

We're thrilled to announce that we're participating in another student exchange trip to Quebec City! We'll be heading to Quebec at the end of January, and we're looking forward to welcoming our Quebec student guests to Alberta in April.

This exchange is open to all grade 9 students, regardless of your current French class enrollment. It's a fantastic opportunity for a cultural exchange!

We'll share more details as the trip approaches. Stay tuned for updates!

Kinette Christmas Hampers - repeat

Once again as the holiday season approaches, the Spruce Grove Kinette volunteers are working toward the 51st Annual Christmas Hamper campaign. Last year donations were able to assist 710 families in Spruce Grove and East Parkland!  In the spirit of giving and in hopes of making this season a little brighter for those in need Greystone will be collecting new, unwrapped toys (for children aged 17 and under) and gift cards.

Items will be accepted until Friday, December 13th at Greystone Centennial Middle School, so that they can be sent to the Kinette collection site and distributed to families in need this Christmas.

Thank you so much for all of the support to the local Christmas Hamper Campaign that makes such a difference to families in our community!

Career Fair - repeat

Dear Parents, Grandparents and Friends of Greystone,

Greystone School is planning our 2nd annual CAREER FAIR event for our grade 7-9’s on Thursday, January 30th, 2025 (9:30-12:30). Greystone’s Career Fair Committee is asking parents, community members and friends to come in and speak about their career choice and give students an insight to a career that they may have never considered or already have an interest in and want to find out more.

If you would be interested in being one of our presenters for the day please email Janie Scheidl at janie.scheidl@psd.ca with your name, career, a brief description of what you do, and a phone number at which you can be contacted.  You may also leave a message with reception in the general office.  If you are able to volunteer your time, we would be so grateful.  Refreshments will be provided.
