Inferno News: April 11, 2025

Here is this week's edition of Inferno News.

Registration Reminder

School registrations for 2025-2026 are now outstanding. Those that have not completed registration were emailed by our secretary Mrs. Robinson earlier this week. Please submit this through the parent portal and the RSVP link as soon as possible. Please contact the office if you require assistance. Without registrations complete, we cannot properly plan for next school year as we must have an accurate headcount to determine class configurations.

6T & 6L Kabul Market

The other half of our grade 6 students will be running their Kabul Market on Wednesday, April 23 from 11:30-12:30.  Classes will have the opportunity to sign up to attend the market.  If your child wishes to participate, they can bring cash that day.

Elder in Residence Visits - reinstated!

Elder Linda will be visiting our school once a month in April, May and June. The Youth Spirit Council will meet with her during a potluck lunch, then she will be spending the afternoon working with various classrooms.  Welcome Back Kukom Linda!

If your child participates in our Youth Spirit Council, and you would be interested in providing a potluck item for the lunch, please reach out to Mrs. Dani Rau (danielle.rau@psd.ca) or Mrs. Lindsay McCulloch (lindsay.mcculloch@psd.ca).

CTF Options Term 4:
Check out the options available for the last term of Career and Technology Foundations here.  Your child will be completing their survey on Monday, April 14.  The final term begins Tuesday, April 22/Wednesday, April 23.

GCMS is going to have a Spring Fling dance on Thursday, April 17 for the afternoon.  We will be bringing in Sound Culture once again to DJ the event.  The dance costs $4/student - this will cover the DJ as well as Photobooth she brings to events. If your child does not want to participate in the dance, they are welcome to take advantage of the other free-fun activities that will take place throughout the green and purple pod for the afternoon.

FOGS will be running a concession again.  Classes will have the opportunity to purchase items from the concession during a designated buying time in the morning, with the dance and other activities running in the afternoon. Here is the menu:

Sparkling Ice - $2

Ring Pops - $1

Sour Soothers - $1

Airhead - 50 cents

Chips - $1

Choir Update
Congratulations to all of our choirs that performed at the Leduc Music Festival today. We will be sharing the marks and standings in next week's copy of the Inferno News. Great job representing Greystone today!

Choir Tour
Our Whistler Choir Tour is quickly approaching. This is a reminder that there is a final parent meeting happening on Tuesday, April 22nd at 6:00pm in the Greystone Music Room. If you have any questions, you can always reach out to Mrs. Putt.

Grade 7 Bike Maintenance Option
Our new bike maintenance option is looking for bikes!  The goal of the option is to learn about how bikes run as well as how to fix/maintain them. If your family has a bike that they could donate to the option, to help practice skills and learn how they work please contact Mr. Wahlen (jan.wahlen@psd.ca)

2025-26 Class Requests
If you are wanting to make a class request for next year, please complete the 2025-26 Class Request Form before Thursday, May 15.  Please complete 1 form per child - if you are making requests for multiple children you will need to complete multiple forms.  This is the only way your requests will be documented/tracked/considered, and is therefore, the only way to ensure you are able to share pertinent information about your child for next school year.

Please note that putting in a request does not guarantee your request will be honoured.  There are a number of factors that contribute to the creation of class lists include, but are not limited to:

  • Balancing Class Size
  • Balancing class dynamics, including academics and behavior
  • Balancing gender wherever possible
  • Ensuring adequate support where it is required, as this at times require clustering similar levels of need
  • Separating some students who cannot be together or who do not work well together
  • Trying to ensure that each student has a minimum of one social connection in their homeroom. This does not mean that they will be with their closest peers.

In the end, the above factors will weigh heavily on each individual student's placement, and will impact whether or not your specific request will be put in place for the 2025-26 school year.

Requests that will not be considered include, but are not limited to:

  • Specific teacher requests (including gender, style, culture, race or preference)
  • Requests to be with specific friends or groups of friends
(there will be a place to indicate positive peer relations that we should be aware of - but there is no guarantee your child will be placed with these people)
  • Requests to not be with specific students based on like or dislike for that student
(there will be a place to indicate negative/conflictual peer relations that we should be aware of - but, again, there is no guarantee your child will be separated from these people)

Thank you for sharing information about your child as we look to set up for the 2025-26 school year. Class lists will be available on powerschool late in August, shortly before school begins for students

Track and Field Hot Lunch
In our Hot Lunch program you will be able to pre-order lunch on our track and field day, May 14. This is a great opportunity for a lunch during the track and field meet while also support FOGS!

Thank You from FOGS
FOGS and Greystone would like to say THANK YOU to all those who participated in our fundraising package. We were able to raise nearly $2300 for our school!

Archery Update
Millstone Archery is now into its second phase of the season. Our first phase ended with both our Elementary and Middle School teams winning the provincial banners in both 10/15 meter bullseye and 3-D. Our High school team has now been declared 4th in the province in the most competitive division of the three which is a great accomplishment! Phase 2 is getting ready for Nationals which are being held in Wetaskiwin in May.  Archers choosing to shoot at Nationals have started practicing again this week. Good luck to the participants heading to Smoky Lake this weekend for the last tournament before we go to  Nationals.

Grade 5 Only Information - Market Day for Grade 5s
On Monday, April 15th, during block 8, a Grade 7 option class will be hosting a small market at school. Some of the Grade 7 students have been busy creating their own mini businesses and will be selling fun items such as bracelets, mystery boxes, keychains, pins, candy, and cookies! Prices range from $0.50 to $5.00. Grade 5 students will have a chance to visit the market and shop if they’d like—bringing a few dollars is optional. It’s a great opportunity to support student creativity and entrepreneurship!
