February 21: Inferno Weekly Update

Here is our weekly update of events and information for Greystone Centennial Middle School.

COVID Update

This was our first week with the new COVID health measures that started on Monday, Feb. 14. The biggest change was that masks are no longer required for students while at school. Many of the other measures remain in place. For more information, please visit the PSD website on this topic

We are resuming some programs that have been put on hold because of COVID. We are happy to have our Choirs and our Community Classroom program restarting this week.

COVID Reporting

The number of COVID cases reported to the school is updated on our website each Friday. We continue to request that families let us know if a student tests positive for COVID, as we rely on self-reporting for these numbers. Thank you for your support.

Family Day - Monday, February 21

A reminder that there is no school this Monday, as it is Family Day in Alberta.

Pink Shirt Day

“Lift Each Other Up” on Pink Shirt Day at Greystone and across the country, Wed. Feb. 23!

As a demonstration of our need to work together to promote healthy relationships and prevent bullying, Parkland School Division and GCMS encourage all students, staff, and families to participate by donning your favourite shades of rose, fuchsia, salmon, or magenta. Share on social media using the hashtags #psd70 and #PinkShirtDay. Be kind, and take care of each other, every day. For more information on Pink Shirt Day and Safe and Caring Schools, please visit the Pink Shirt Day and Alberta Government websites.

2021-2022 Alberta Education Assurance Survey

Each year Alberta Education provides a survey to students in grades 4, 7 & 10, parents of those students, and teachers to gather feedback on the quality of education that students are receiving. Our GCMS Grade 7 teachers, students, and all staff will be completing this survey. If you are a Grade 7 parent you will be receiving a random access code to complete the parent survey online. https://public.education.alberta.ca/APOS/ . You can learn more about this survey on the Alberta Education Website. In addition, you can view examples of the parent questionnaire with this link and examples of the student questionnaire with this link

(Don’t forget about the PSD ThoughtExchange (open now, until Mon., Feb. 21) and the school survey (coming soon!))

French “Carnaval”

Students in grades 5 & 6 had a great day celebrating French culture and engaging in activities during our “Carnaval”. A huge thanks to to Mme. Wolitski and the FSL students in grades 7-9 for organizing the activities. You can see some pictures from the event on our website.
