Inferno News: November 22, 2024

Here is our weekly update of events and information for Greystone Centennial Middle School.

Principal's Report

I hope all families had a great fall break. We would like to officially welcome back Mrs. Raeann Lesniak as she has returned from her maternity leave and will be one of our grade 6 homeroom teachers. We want to thank Ms. Nancy Wilson for filling in while she was away.

November and December are very busy months at Greystone. We have wrapped up our fall sports program, and have transitioned into basketball and archery season. Basketball tryouts are underway, and archery will start shortly.

Student attendance is an important thing to pay attention to over the next few months. Attendance stats at Greystone typically show that after October, attendance drops significantly for the next 3 months (November-January), before returning to higher levels. While we know that there is typically more illness in these months, ensuring that your child is attending regularly when they are able to is imperative to their academic success. Here is the overall attendance data from Greystone from last year during this stretch:

DID YOU KNOW

  • The daily announcements are on the school website - the document is posted Monday by 10 AM, and the daily announcements are added after they are read in the morning.  These can be found under For Students/Announcements.  Check them out!
  • The School Calendar is a search friendly resource that includes as much-up-to-date information as possible.  Check it out for information on extra-curricular schedules, class field trips and special events/presentations!

In Search of Volunteers - repeat

FOGS (Friends of Greystone Society) is looking for adult volunteers to help out with pop up lunches. These lunches differ from the 'hot lunch' program, where items are sold directly in our pods rather than pre-ordered. The dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday, December 10
  • Tuesday, January 14

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact FOGS vice-president Chantelle at cschenk73@gmail.com or by phone at 780-983-4722

Career Fair - UPDATE

Due to the Grade 9 Quebec trip, we have shifted our CAREER FAIR to Tuesday, January 28th from 9:30-12:30. Greystone’s Career Fair Committee is asking parents, community members and friends to come in and speak about their career choice and give students an insight to a career that they may have never considered or already have an interest in and want to find out more.

If you would be interested in being one of our presenters for the day please email Janie Scheidl at janie.scheidl@psd.ca with your name, career, a brief description of what you do, and a phone number at which you can be contacted.  You may also leave a message with reception in the general office.  If you are able to volunteer your time, we would be so grateful.  Refreshments will be provided.

Share a Thought Survey- repeat

We want your feedback!

Use our Share a Thought Survey to let us know what is on your mind.  We work hard as a staff to consider your feedback when making decisions regarding many aspects of the school.
