October 3, 2025 Release

Principal's Message

Thank you for the many kind and supportive messages sent to staff this week. Please ensure you have reviewed all communication from myself and Parkland School Division regarding a potential teacher strike on October 6, 2025. If this occurs, schools will be closed. During this time, teachers and administration will not be available in any capacity. General inquiries can be sent to greystone@psd.ca.

All future communication regarding job action will come from Parkland School Division.

Choir 5/6

The Grade 5/6 Choir will be performing at the Oil Kings game on Tuesday, October 21 if job action is no longer in effect.

If you have any questions or need an additional QR code to purchase tickets, please contact Mrs. Putt at genna.putt@psd.ca.

How to Pay Fees Using your Cell Phone - repeat

It is important to remember that the PowerSchool App will NOT show fees owing, and does not allow you to pay fees.  You must access PowerSchool through a web browser in order to see and pay fees.

This is possible on your phone using the following steps:

  1. Open up a web browser - Google Chrome/Safari/etc.
(note some browsers work better than others  - Chrome is the most reliable)
  2. Go to: https://www.psd.ca/schools/exams-report-cards/powerschool
  3. Click on the button labeled Sign in to PowerSchool
    1. Use your PARENT Sign In Credentials
  4. A screen will appear that has Current Student: Your Name at the top and a menu of options. Click Exit to Main PS Site
  5. The default page will be Attendance for your oldest child - there is a hidden menu on the left hand side of the screen. Click on small tab with triangle
  6. Select Student Fees from the Menu and you will go to an overview page

At this point you should be able to click on a cart in the top right hand corner, and continue to payment options including partial payments.

Rainbows Support Group Information - repeat

Have you heard of RAINBOWS? Perhaps you know someone who has benefitted from this wonderful support program when their family experienced divorce/separation/grief/loss.They may have told you their kids have been helped a great deal through participation. Although RAINBOWS is not counseling, it is very helpful for children and youth to share their feelings in a caring, confidential environment, with others of a similar age, in similar situations.  The concept is simple yet very effective; sharing grief helps children hear and cope better with the inevitable changes that accompany death, separation or divorce. Kids are resilient, but only if they get help.

RAINBOWS (for grades 5-6) is offered at Greystone Middle School in 45 minute, weekly sessions over 13 weeks. Our sessions will run from October through January and again from February - May based on need. The last class is a celebration.

SPECTRUMS (for grades 7-9) will run similar to Rainbows once a week, for 13 weeks. Through fun games, activities and discussion, RAINBOWS can help children understand and accept the changes they are experiencing, learn communication, problem-solving and positive coping strategies to make their lives better.

Parent permission is required. If you would like your son/daughter to be involved in this program, or if you would like more information or have questions, please do not hesitate to email your child’s teacher or the School Counselor, Janie Scheidl at janie.scheidl@psd.ca.

School Council/FOGS - repeat

We had a great turnout for our first Parent Council/FOGS meeting of the year this week! It was great to see some new faces and volunteers.  Our next meeting will be October 22nd at 6:30 in the library. Our Friends of Greystone Society (FOGS) is looking for a treasurer in-training this year, as our treasurer will be departing us next school year! This is a minimal time commitment and our current treasurer will help you learn the role. You do not need to be able to attend every month to be a part of the council.  We look forward to seeing you there! If you have questions about the treasurer role, please reach out to Kim Buchanan (kmillisbuchanan@gmail.com)

Hot Lunch Program - repeat

Our hot lunch program will be ordered monthly. Our first round of ordering will be September 17-24, 2025, for an October 3rd start. Hot Lunch will be available every Friday, or the day before if there is no school. This document has the selling dates listed for the entire year. We will send out date reminders starting in September. We will be using local vendors (Pizza 73, Pretzel Shack, Bite to Eat, etc.). Volunteers are important to make this program a success. We will need 3 volunteers each day. When you order hot lunch for your child, there will be a box to check if you can volunteer.

Snacks will NOT be provided; we will only be providing the entree.

Hot Lunch Ordering

All orders can be completed online only. We accept order payments through PayPal. You can check out as a guest or by using your PayPal account (which includes credit card or debit online). NO PAPER ORDERS OR CASH will be accepted.
