Halloween / Spookapalooza Information

We are happy to announce the return of Spookapalooza on Monday, Oct. 31. This is a fun afternoon of activities on the day of Halloween. Students have a choice in the activities that they choose to participate in over the afternoon, including a $2 dance (with a DJ).

Students are welcome to wear their costumes in the afternoon. Costumes should be appropriate for a school setting (no offensive logos, slogans, etc. ) and we would ask that no one brings any weapons (even fake ones) as part of their costume. Additionally, all masks need to be removable.

Choir News

The Oil Kings performance is quickly coming up, we are performing on Thursday, Oct. 27th.

We have extended the date for the return of ticket forms to Tuesday, Oct. 11th (after the long weekend). This is the last day possible to hand in any money/forms for the Oil Kings tickets.

Contact Mrs. Putt for any additional information.

Rainbows Program

Have you heard of RAINBOWS? Perhaps people close to you have benefitted from this wonderful support program when their family experienced divorce/separation/grief/loss. They may have told you their kids have been helped a great deal by participation. Although RAINBOWS is not counseling, it is very helpful for children and youth to share their feelings in a caring, confidential environment, with others of a similar age, in similar situations.

The concept is simple yet very effective; sharing grief helps children hear and cope better with the inevitable changes that accompany death, separation, or divorce. Kids are resilient, but only if they get help.

RAINBOWS is offered at Greystone Centennial School in 45-minute, weekly sessions over 13 weeks during the lunch hour for our grade 5 & 6 students. Our sessions will run from October through January and again from February -May. The last class is a celebration. SPECTRUMS (for grades 7-9) will run similarly to Rainbows except that the sessions are varied blocks during the day, once a week, for 13 weeks. Through fun games, activities, and discussion, RAINBOWS can help children understand and accept the changes they are experiencing, and learn communication, problem-solving and positive coping strategies to make their lives better. Parent permission is required. If you would like your son/daughter to be involved in this program, or if you would like more information or have questions, please do not hesitate to call/email your child’s teacher or the School Counsellor, janie.scheidl@psd.ca.

Cotton Candy Fundraiser

Cotton Candy order forms have been distributed. Orders are due back to school by Oct. 12 with delivery on Halloween. Please return order forms and payment to the office for collection. If you need another form or have any questions, please contact the office.

Ice Cream & Pizza Sales

Friends of Greystone Society (FOGS) will be selling ice cream on Wednesday, Oct. 19th at lunch recess for $1 per scoop. They will also be selling Pizza for $2 per slice on Wednesday, Oct. 26th.

Social and Emotional Learning

New the year, Greystone staff is using the CASEL framework to organize our work around social and emotional learning. If you would like more information on this framework and how it might be helpful at home, please check out the CASEL website.

What is Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)? SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.
