Oct. 24: Inferno Weekly News

Here is our weekly update of events and information for Greystone Centennial Middle School.

Notice of Outbreak - Respiratory Illness

Last week, AHS has declared an Outbreak at Greystone for Respiratory Illness due to a large number of absences related to illness. They are asking families to be aware of symptoms that students may show and to follow some precautions to reduce the spread of illness in the school. Please read their Notice of Respiratory Illness Outbreak letter.

The school will also be putting in some additional measures to break the illness transmission cycle. These measures focus on cleaning and the choice of activities at school. If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Halloween / Spookapalooza Information

We are happy to announce the return of Spookapalooza on Monday, Oct. 31. This is a fun afternoon of activities on the day of Halloween. Students have a choice in the activities that they participate in over the afternoon, including a $2 dance (with a professional DJ). Students will be able to select one activity in each one-hour block, or stay in one activity all afternoon.

Students are welcome to wear their costumes in the afternoon. Costumes should be appropriate for a school setting (no offensive logos, slogans etc. ) and we would ask that no one brings any weapons (even fake ones) as part of their costume. Additionally, all masks need to be removable.

Choir Update

For members of the choir, here is an update:

  • Tickets for the Oil King's game went home with all students this past Thursday (Oct. 20th).
  • Choir shirts will be going home this upcoming week, before the game.
  • The Oil Kings' performance is coming up fast! Our Grade 5&6 Choir students will be singing at Rogers' Place this upcoming Thursday (Oct. 27th).  We are so proud and excited for our choir to be at Rogers' Place. Go Inferno!!

If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Putt about the upcoming game. Cannot wait to see you there!

Vapes at School

We have recently seen an increase in incidents involving vapes at school. Bringing a vape to school is not only against school rules, but it is also illegal. Families, please take a minute to speak with students about the harm of vaping. For more information, please read the press release on the Alberta Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Reduction Act (TSVRA) or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Quick Facts on the Risks of E-cigarettes for Kids, Teens, and Young Adults.

Pizza Sales

Friends of Greystone Society (FOGS) will be selling Pizza on Wednesday, Oct. 26th. $2/slice or a combo of drink/pizza/chips for $5. If you would like to buy lunch that day, please bring cash and listen to announcements for the location of the sale.

Kinette Christmas Donations

Greystone is getting into the Christmas spirit early this year to collect monetary donations, grocery gift cards, store gift cards for teens/children (11-17 years old), and unused/unwrapped toys (Children 10 years and under) for families in our community. Gift cards in the denominations of $25 from local businesses work the best. Please remember that no food items will be collected this year.

We need your support more than ever! Many families are going through difficult times, and we are inviting our Greystone students to spread some cheer to them during this season of giving. Our Greystone deadline for all gift cards/donations and toys is Wednesday, December 7. Thank you so much for your help!

Student Sign Out

A reminder to all families, if you pick up a student before the end of the day, please sign them out by filling out the form at the front office or phoning the office staff. Thank you.

Our Winter Purdy’s Chocolate order deadline is Nov. 23rd. Flyers should have some home with students this past week. If you did not receive your flyer, please visit https://fundraising.purdys.com/christmas/catalog and use customer #55529.
