October 18, 2021: Inferno Weekly Update
Inferno News - Oct. 18-22
Here is our weekly update on what is happening at Greystone.
COVID-19 Information
Greystone no longer has status under the Government of Alberta COVID-19 School Status system, meaning that we have not had a COVID case at school while infectious in the last 14 days. For further information on the COVID classification system, visit the COVID-19 school status website.
A reminder that the Government of Alberta has resumed contact tracing through AHS. Starting October 12, AHS will be directly informing schools if a student was infectious while in class.
Parent-Teacher Interviews - Oct. 20 & 21
Virtual Term One Parent/Teacher/Student conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, October 20th and Thursday, October 21st from 4:00-7:00 pm, but due to circumstances, there may be differences for individual teachers or grades. Our conferences will be conducted completely virtually this year, through Google Meets. You will have received an email with instructions for the registration process. You can also visit our website for more information.
School Council and FOGS Meeting - Tuesday, Oct. 19 (6:30 pm)
Our monthly School Council and FOGS meetings are this coming Tuesday (Oct. 19) starting at 6:30 pm. All members of the school community are invited. We will continue to host these meetings online until further notice. Here are the 2 agendas for the meetings:
To join via Google Meet: https://meet.google.com/mus-
To join by telephone:(CA) +1 613-778-3313 PIN: 419 023 787#
Book Fair
Our Book Fair will be running from Tuesday, Oct. 19 to Monday, Oct. 25. We will be running a “no-touch book fair” with an online portion as well. Check out the online ordering website here.
If you are interested in volunteering during the book fair, please contact the School Library.
Immunization Information
The AHS Public Health office has been receiving many inquiries from parents regarding catch-up immunizations for Gr. 7 and Gr. 8 students who did not get to complete their Gr. 6 immunizations. Here is a document that summarizes the immunization program for Gr 6 to Gr 9. In it, you will find answers to many of the frequently asked questions.
Volunteer Paperwork
If you are interested in volunteering this year, we require anyone putting in over 10 hours at the school to fill out some important paperwork which includes a criminal record check. Please contact the office for these forms.
Halloween Costume Guidelines
Students are welcome to wear their costumes in the afternoon on Friday, Oct. 29th. Costumes should be appropriate for a school setting (no offensive logos, slogans etc. ) and we would ask that no one brings any weapons (even fake ones) as part of their costume. Additionally, all masks need to be removable.
Farm to School Fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Farm to School fundraiser. We made $412 for our school but also donated 14 bundles of food (200 lbs of vegetables) to the Food Bank.
Hot Lunch
Ordering for Hot Lunch in November is open from Oct. 21-27 at https://greystone.hotlunches.
Hot Lunch is available on Fridays and all profits are returned to FOGS. Click here for more information.
Upcoming Fundraisers
We have 2 fundraisers that are coming up soon. We will be doing our Purdy’s Chocolate fundraiser this year again for Christmas. Look for order forms and information coming in November. We will also be having our Kiwi Nurseries fundraiser at the same time.
Community Connector - New Position in PSD
The Community Connector supports youth (age 11+) and their families to access community and mental health support by working collaboratively with community stakeholders, social service agencies, and health care providers. This is a shared position between CHANGE Health, the PCN and PSD. They act as a living library of information regarding health and wellness resources that are available within the community, provincially, and virtually. Rather than calling 811 or flipping through the YellowPages, the Community Connector can provide information to meet the needs of students and their families and remain connected to provide ongoing support.
Prab Gill is the Community Connector serving Spruce Grove. To access her support, she can be reached at 780-217-8701 or through the office.
