Inferno News: February 28, 2025

Here is this week's edition of Inferno News.

Strike Operation Reminders and Updates:

Modified Office Hours: Phones will not be answered outside of the hours listed below - The front doors will be locked outside of the office hours as well. Please refrain from non-emergency visits during our non-office hours such as lunch drop-off, personal items. While we understand this is inconvenient, we will only be accepting these items during our modified office hours as we do not have the staffing to monitor the front door for the full day. Please use the new Report an Absence form and email your child's teacher.

Modified Office Hours: 8:30-9:30 AM, 12:30-2:00, 3:15-4:15

Early Pick-up

As indicated in our original communication, please continue to email your child's homeroom teacher with the information regarding your child's departure.  Please, also CC greystone@psd.ca, so when the office is staffed they are also aware of the alternative departure arrangements. If possible, please arrange for a half-day absence with an arrival or departure during the lunch hour due to limited office staff.

Powerschool Fees

There will be a delay in posting new fees to Powerschool accounts. This includes current Language/Fine Arts & CTF fees as well as extra-curricular activities/field trips (Grade 7-9 Marmot Basin Ski Trip).  Thank you for your patience as we work through these details.  We will not be accepting cash or cheque payments at the office during this time. Cash payments can be made at PSDs division office in Stony Plain from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday.

Snacks and Breakfast Program

We will unfortunately have very few snacks available for the time being and have had to temporarily suspend our breakfast program. We are looking at other ways to increase access to food items. Please do your best to ensure your child has an adequate amount of food for the school day.

School Items

Parent-Teacher Interviews: These will be postponed until mid-April.  Please, watch for additional communication after Spring Break.

Kids' Brains and Screens: A Parent Workshop at Westview School

Join us on March 4 at 6:15 at Westview School for an eye-opening workshop on the impact of screens on children’s developing brains. Led by Rob McLeod, this session will provide parents with the knowledge and tools to navigate today’s digital landscape with confidence.

Backed by research and real-world experience, this workshop will explore:

  • How screen time affects brain development, attention, and mental health.
  • The science behind screen dependency and what parents can do to prevent and reverse it.
  • Practical, actionable strategies to FREE children from toxic screen habits while fostering healthier, more engaged lifestyles.
  • The role of play, movement, and real-world connections in building resilience and focus.

This workshop is designed to EMPOWER parents with solutions that prioritize their child’s well-being. Whether you're already struggling with screen time battles or looking for ways to be proactive, you'll leave with a clear plan and renewed confidence in guiding your child toward a balanced, screen-strong life.
