Here is this week's edition of Inferno News.
School Items
Parent-Teacher Interviews: Due to the ongoing CUPE labour strike, our schools are currently experiencing staffing shortages, which have required adjustments to regular operations. As a result, the parent-teacher interviews that typically take place at this time of year will be postponed. We understand the importance of these conversations and will re-evaluate the situation in April.
In the meantime, we encourage families to use all the tools available to them to stay engaged in their student(s)' learning progress. The PowerSchool Parent Portal remains a valuable tool for monitoring grades (where applicable) and staying informed. Thank you for your understanding and support.
FOGS Fundraisers
FOGS sent out their fundraising package this week to Purdys, Good Morning Honey, The Wall Coffee Roasters, Sherwood Soups, and The Brickhouse Smokery! Any support is appreciated as it supports FOGS initiatives which help outfit out school with amazing programs and equipment!
Millstone Archery
Our Millstone Archery team has had a fantastic start to the year. The archers are putting in an amazing effort and it shows in the results from each and every tournament. This weekend, archers will be in Morinville. Through March 14th (afterschool) and the day of the 15th, Millstone will be hosting their 3rd annual archery tournament at Greystone school. With over 500 archers signed up, it is quickly becoming a "want to" attend tournament for archers in the area. It is a great lead into the Alberta Provincials that will take place the following weekend in Edmonton (March 20-22).
Thanks to all the archers for their dedication and the parents who volunteer their time to coach and to help out with the Archery team.
High School Registration (Grade 9 Students ONLY)
Spruce Grove Composite High School representatives will be coming to GCMS for their final time on Tuesday, March 18 to assist the grade 9 students with the online course selection portion of their registration. Please complete the paper registration documents and return them to your child's homeroom teacher as soon as possible.

Parent Workshop Opportunity- Repeat
Kids' Brains and Screens: A Parent Workshop at Westview School
Join us on March 4 at 6:15 at Westview School for an eye-opening workshop on the impact of screens on children’s developing brains. Led by Rob McLeod, this session will provide parents with the knowledge and tools to navigate today’s digital landscape with confidence.
Backed by research and real-world experience, this workshop will explore:
- How screen time affects brain development, attention, and mental health.
- The science behind screen dependency and what parents can do to prevent and reverse it.
- Practical, actionable strategies to FREE children from toxic screen habits while fostering healthier, more engaged lifestyles.
- The role of play, movement, and real-world connections in building resilience and focus.
This workshop is designed to EMPOWER parents with solutions that prioritize their child’s well-being. Whether you're already struggling with screen time battles or looking for ways to be proactive, you'll leave with a clear plan and renewed confidence in guiding your child toward a balanced, screen-strong life.
ScreenStrong EMPOWERS parents to prevent & reverse childhood screen dependency. Join us for this essential conversation and take the first step toward lasting change.
