September 12th, 2025 Release

School Council/FOGS:

Our school council is looking for a president!!  We have a very dedicated group of parents that meet the fourth Wednesday of each month for about an hour.  Consider attending our first meeting - Wednesday, September 24 from 6:30-7:30 in the GCMS staffroom.  You do not need to be able to attend every month to be a part of the council.  We look forward to seeing you there! We are looking for someone to take on the role of School Council Chair for 2025-2026, and an election will be held during this meeting.

Breakfast Program
GCMS breakfast program is up and running!  This program is open to all students who require a little something first thing in the morning.  We are hoping to set up a second toast station in our blue pod for the year, but need volunteers to help monitor the station.  If you are available from 8:30-9:10 during the week, and would like to help with our breakfast program please contact Mrs. McCulloch (lindsay.mcculloch@psd.ca) or Kim Buchanan (kmillisbuchanan@gmail.com)

Plant Clippings

Mrs. Nicholls is looking for plant clippings to grow in our Blue Pod Tower Garden! If you have any extras to share, please bring them to Room 192 in the Blue Pod. We already have plenty of Pothos and Spider plants, so we’d love some variety.

Physical Education Expectations

It is an Alberta Education requirement that all students participate in physical education classes Kindergarten through Grade 10.  We would like to remind students and families that participation in the PE classes as planned is an expectation.  Currently students are working through an indoor unit - volleyball - and an outdoor unit - flag football.  Remind your child to come ready to participate in their assigned group; this includes paying attention to the weather.  We encourage students to bring a water bottle, especially if their group is outside, as well as hats and sunglasses as needed.  

Cross Country

Congratulations to all the runners on the first race this past Thursday.  If you are interested in participating there is still time - take a look at this note and connect with Mme Wolitski, Mrs. Lachman or Mrs. McCulloch.

Terry Fox Run - FINISH IT!

The Twoonie for Terry Campaign has begun.  If your child brings in a donation for the Terry Fox Run they will be entered into a draw for a GCMS T-Shirt!  Every $2 donation is an entry into the grade level draw.  Have your child drop your cash donation off at the office before Thursday, September 18 in order to ensure entry into the draw!

Grade 7-9 Options Courses

Students will receive their option course assignments on Monday, September 15.  We will not be accepting student requests for changes.  Course fees outlines will be sent to all Grade 7-9 teachers early next week with payment due by Friday, September 26.  If course fees are not paid, or a plan is created to ensure payment over the course of the term, then students will be moved into a course with no fee.

Hot Lunch Program - repeat

Our hot lunch program will be ordered monthly. Our first round of ordering will be September 17-24, 2025, for an October 3rd start. Hot Lunch will be available every Friday, or the day before if there is no school. This document has the selling dates listed for the entire year. We will send out date reminders starting in September. We will be using local vendors (Pizza 73, Pretzel Shack, Bite to Eat, etc.). Volunteers are important to make this program a success. We will need 3 volunteers each day. When you order hot lunch for your child, there will be a box to check if you can volunteer. 

Snacks will NOT be provided; we will only be providing the entree.

All orders can be completed online only. We accept order payments through PayPal. You can check out as a guest or by using your PayPal account (which includes credit card or debit online). NO PAPER ORDERS OR CASH will be accepted.

1. Follow the online instructions to order. (You do NOT need to have a PayPal account to pay online. You can pay by credit card without creating a PayPal account. This needs to be done on a computer as opposed to a mobile device.) 

Should your child be away on a hot lunch day that you have paid for, we will NOT provide a refund.  

In the event buses are cancelled, hot lunch will be delivered to the school. Please contact the hot lunch co-ordinator to make alternate arrangements if your child is not at school. 

If there is a class event (e.g., fieldtrip) scheduled after hot lunches have been ordered, alternate arrangements will be made to ensure the students will still receive the ordered lunch.

Please ensure that your ORDER and PAYMENT are completed by 4:30pm on the last sale date as no late orders can be accepted.
