Inferno News: September 20, 2024

Here is our weekly update of events and information for Greystone Centennial Middle School.

Principal Message

The first few weeks have been a blur. Last weekend, we hosted our senior boys and girls volleyball tournaments. Yesterday, we had a very successful Terry Fox Run. Thank you to those parents who came out and volunteered. We hope to host more successful events with parent support throughout the year!

Family Owned Student Chromebooks - Managing Parental Controls

Although PSD does not have access to Parental Controls or Family links: here are a couple of Google support websites that could help you.

Please note there is a way to add an Education account that might be a little more manageable and hopefully will not require a parent code every time.

AHS Education Session Around Vaccinations for Grade 6 Students

Alberta Health Services will be back next week on Friday, September 27th, to provide some general education to grade 6 students around the history of vaccines and why they exist to support public health. This presentation has taken place in schools for many years. There are no vaccinations given at this presentation. AHS and schools do work together to help facilitate vaccinations, but this takes place later in the school year and requires parental consent and forms will come home.

Message From our Counsellor - Rainbows & Spectrums Program - repeat

Have you heard of Rainbows? Perhaps people close to you have benefitted from this wonderful support program when their family experienced divorce/separation/grief/loss.They may have told you their kids have been helped a great deal by participation. Although Rainbows is not counselling, it is very helpful for children and youth to share their feelings in a caring, confidential environment, with others of a similar age, in similar situations. The concept is simple yet very effective; sharing grief helps children hear and cope better with the inevitable changes that accompany death, separation or divorce. Kids are resilient, but only if they get help.

Rainbows is offered at Greystone Centennial School in 45 minute, weekly sessions over 13 weeks. Our sessions will run from October through January and again from February -May pending registrations. The last class is a celebration. Spectrums (for grades 7-9) runs similar to Rainbows and the sessions are varied blocks during the day, once a week. Through fun games, activities ,discussion and mentorship, Rainbows can help children understand and accept the changes they are experiencing, learn communication, problem-solving and positive coping strategies to make their lives better. Parent permission is required. If you would like your son/daughter to be involved in this program, or if you would like more information, please do not hesitate to call/email your child’s teacher or the School Counsellor, janie.scheidl@psd.ca.
