Sept. 12: Inferno Weekly Update

Here is our weekly update of events and information for Greystone Centennial Middle School.

Greystone Open House & Meet the Teacher

We invite all families to attend our Open House & Meet the Teacher event on Sept. 15 from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. This will be a time to walk through the school, meet your teachers, see the classrooms, and ask any questions that you may have. We hope to see you there!

Indigo - Adopt a School Program

Our school was selected to participate in this year’s #AdoptaSchool fundraiser! From now until October 2, every dollar donated at Indigospirit in Westland Market Mall will go towards filling our school with new and diverse books. You can also donate online. Help us reach our goal of raising $2000 by donating online or in-store today!

School Council Meeting

Our first School Council meeting of the year will be on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 6:30pm. We will again be meeting in a hybrid setting so that families can join both in-person or online. The agendas and minutes for the meeting can be found on the School Council section of our website.

Hot Lunch

Our hot lunch program will be ordered monthly. Our first round of ordering will be September 21-28, 2022, for October 7 start. Hot Lunch will be available every Friday, or the day before if there is no school. We will be utilizing local vendors (Pizza 73, KFC, Bite to Eat, etc.). Volunteers are important to make this program a success. We will need 2 volunteers each day. When you order hot lunch for your child, there will be a box to check if you can volunteer.

All orders can be completed online. We accept order payments through PayPal. You can check out as a guest or by using your PayPal account (which includes credit card or debit online).

COVID Aware

Greystone Centennial Middle School and Parkland School Division are excited that the World is Opening Back Up. 2022-2023 should finally start to feel like what a school year is supposed to feel like. While the pandemic is officially over, our new reality is that COVID-19 is here to stay.

With that being said, there are many measures that were previously implemented that just make sense to continue. Above all, we encourage anyone who is feeling ill to stay home from school. If you are exhibiting any of the key symptoms known for COVID-19, we encourage you to access one of the many test kits that are also available at the school. Meanwhile, PSD will continue the following:

  • Hand sanitizer will still be readily available at all schools,
  • Students will continue to be reminded of the importance of thorough hand-washing hygiene,
  • School staff will ensure that appropriate cleaning of high touch areas will continue,
  • The frequency at which air filters are changed in PSD has also been increased and air handling/ventilation equipment in all schools has been adjusted to maximize the number of air exchanges within the schools. All schools will operate filtration systems that meet or exceed the Minimum Efficiency Reporting Values (MERV) 13 air filtration rate, and
  • Where practical, entrances and exits can be used to efficiently reduce crowding during high traffic times of the day.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. We look forward to a healthy and happy school year.

Fair Notice - Violent Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA)

The goal of the Violence/Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) process is that every incident of youth violence in our communities is addressed. VTRA is early intervention – which is quite possibly prevention. This assessment is done through our community partners to help keep our community safe. For more information, please visit the recent information release on VTRA.

AHS - Back to School Resources

Alberta Health Services Community Education Service provides free public education sessions for parents and caregivers, with a focus on child and youth wellness. During the COVID-19 pandemic, live webinars can be viewed on a computer, smartphone, or tablet. Pre-recorded sessions are available too.
