Message from Friends of Greystone Society - 50/50 and Raffle Baskets!
FOGS is having the Christmas Basket Raffle for Snowed In on Dec 19 again this year and we need to enlist some help from Greystone staff, students, and families.
For the raffle, we will have donation boxes and collect donations from each grade/class for the
following themes:
Grade 9 - Spa Day: ideas include socks, lotions, bubble bath, face masks
Grade 8 - Warm Winter Nights: ideas include socks, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, mugs
Grade 7 - Movie Night: ideas include popcorn bags, candy, drinks, DVD/Blu Rays
Grade 6 - Game Night: ideas include board games, card games, pens/pencils, mad libs
Grade 5 - Christmas Sweets & Baking: ideas include baking ingredients/kits, spatulas, bowls,
cookie cutters, cookie decorations/sprinkles etc.
Each class will have a donation box labelled with their theme!
Donation items can be as small or as big as people wish- even a bag of chocolate chips or socks from the dollar store can be something someone brings in if they want to participate.
We would also accept donations for the actual baskets themselves if anyone has some as well.
We had everything from wicker baskets to bowls to hold the items in.
On Friday, December 13, we will collect the items and assemble them into Raffle Baskets to
raffle off for $2/ticket at Snowed In at Greystone on Tuesday, December 19. Draws would be
made at the end of the night and prizes can be collected at the school.
On behalf of FOGS, thank you everyone for your help with this fundraiser!
Kinette Hampers - THANK YOU ALL
On behalf of the Kinette Club and Greystone School we want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who generously donated to our Christmas Hamper Toy and Gift Card Drive!
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. We received 174 gifts and lots of gift cards (we are still counting)!
Thank you again for your for helping to spread a little joy this Christmas season!
Tour Choir- Hot Chocolate Fundraiser
The tour choir will be doing a hot chocolate fundraiser on Monday, Dec 16th during lunchtime in the pods. A regular hot chocolate will cost $2.00 and a "fancy" hot chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles will be $2.50. Thank you for supporting our choir program!
Attendance Stat
We had Spruce Grove Composite in to do a short presentation with our grade 9 students about the transition of high school. As in previous messages, I have shared the importance of attendance. Over the last few years, Spruce Grove Composite High School has tracked their own attendance date and tracked 3-year completion rates of high school (the expected rate for graduating within 3 years of starting high school). The correlation is extremely strong and shows how important it is to maintain an attendance rate above 90%.
In Search of Volunteers - repeat
FOGS (Friends of Greystone Society) is looking for adult volunteers to help out with pop up lunches. These lunches differ from the 'hot lunch' program, where items are sold directly in our pods rather than pre-ordered. The dates are as follows:
- Tuesday, January 14
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact FOGS vice-president Chantelle at cschenk73@gmail.com or by phone at 780-983-4722.
Share a Thought Survey- repeat
We want your feedback!
Use our Share a Thought Survey to let us know what is on your mind. We work hard as a staff to consider your feedback when making decisions regarding many aspects of the school.
Hot Lunch Update - repeat
Below you will find the schedule for hot lunch this year. This schedule can also be found on the GCMS website. If you do not yet have a hot lunch account please see this document for instructions on how to get set up.

Counsellor’s Corner- Mrs. Scheidl December is a bouncy sleigh ride of emotions for our students as they finish up their first term studies, get excited about holidays and think about upcoming family celebrations. This month is a great time to focus on self care and personal wellness so that we do not become overwhelmed by the business of the season and school. Balancing the workload becomes ultra important and managing stress is the key to a joyful holiday season. Here are some ideas to help your child(ren) find balance:
If your child is struggling with mental wellness, overwhelmed by expectations or is having a challenging time personally, communicating with teachers may be helpful in keeping him/her safe, balanced and feeling supported. Please reach out to school personnel anytime for extra support or just to inform them your child is going through a rough patch. We would love to help. Winter Break Camps
